Montagna: tragedia sull'Ortles in Alto Adige, muore scialpinista di 26 anni

A tragic accident occurred on the Ortles mountain in South Tyrol, Italy, where a 26-year-old Dutch-born Italian trail runner, Tom Arent Van de Plassche, died during an alpine skiing excursion. The incident took place along the steep Minnigerode gully at an altitude of approximately 3,700 meters. According to initial reports by rescuers, poor visibility caused by fog likely contributed to the accident, leading to his fall down the slope. Another group of climbers nearby witnessed the incident but were unable to prevent it. Van de Plassche was known as a high-level athlete in trail running and had recently won the 'Sentiero 618' race in October. He worked in Bolzano and was involved in environmental advocacy through Protect Our Winters Italia. Rescue teams including the Alpine Rescue Service and the Financial Guard responded promptly, but the victim was already deceased upon their arrival. His body was later transported to the hospital in Silandro for autopsy procedures.
