Mongezi Ntukwana, 28, has emerged as a pivotal figure in South Africa’s contemporary theatre scene through his leadership of Aziye Productions, an independent theatre company known for its commitment to original, socially impactful work. As the founder and CEO of the organization, Ntukwana blends roles as a theatre-maker, writer, director, and producer, focusing on narratives that challenge societal norms while inspiring audiences and fostering opportunities for emerging artists. Ntukwana’s professional journey began with a bachelor of arts with honours in theatre and performance from the University of the Witwatersrand, which laid the foundation for his career in the performing arts. Since then, he has led productions that have garnered critical acclaim, including his acclaimed play Yangthola! which won the Standard Bank Bronze Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival and later claimed the Naledi Theatre Award for Best Fringe Performance.
