Eyewear moguls Linda and Allen Hammond have listed their contemporary home in Coopers Shoot, Byron Shire, for sale with a price guide of $13.5 million to $14.5 million. The Hammonds, founders of the sunglasses brands Quay Australia and Otra Eyewear, have decided to sell the property after spending much of their year traveling. They currently own another property on the Gold Coast and describe the Byron Shire home as a "lock and leave" option. Linda Hammond, CEO of Otra Eyewear and co-founder of Quay Australia, stated that the decision to sell the home was driven by their travel schedule. Quay Australia, founded by the couple, launched in 2004 at the Falls Festival in Melbourne and has worked with celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton, and Chrissy Teigen. Their son Zak joined the brand early, and by 2009, Quay Australia had expanded its presence globally. The Hammonds purchased the land in 2016 for $2,085,000 and subsequently demolished the existing structure. They enlisted Zaher Architects to design a new four-bedroom, two-bathroom home over two levels. Approved development applications filed with the local council in 2019 showed an estimated construction cost of $2,677,860. The design incorporated elements such as three sculptural feature staircases, timber-lined ceilings, and Italian porcelain tiles. The property includes a retained pool, a gym, a Japanese-style bath, a fire pit, and balconies offering views of the hinterland and coastline stretching to Lennox Head. In 2023, the Coopers Shoot region saw a record-breaking sale when Tom and Emma Lane's luxury farmhouse, part of the Oroton fashion empire, sold for $33.65 million. The buyer was a company with directors including tech entrepreneur Ben Bray and architect Grace de Rome. The property featured a mineral-based infinity pool and spa, an infrared sauna, a gym, a fire pit, a macadamia grove, and a stable area. Real estate agents Will Phillips and Denzil Lloyd of Byron Bay Sotheby’s International Realty are handling expressions of interest for the Hammonds' residence. Separately, award-winning author Libby Hathorn has listed her Centennial Park home in Sydney for sale with a buyer’s guide of $11.5 million. Hathorn, known for over 80 books for children, young adults, and adults, has recently decided to downsize. Her property, purchased by her and her late husband John Hathorn in the 1970s, has been on the market for the first time in 45 years. The home features a main residence, a one-bed cottage, and a loft studio, totaling seven bedrooms and four bathrooms. Approved development applications over the years detail $99,000 in renovations and a $40,000 replacement of the tile roof. The main residence boasts high ornate ceilings, parquetry floors, timber architraves, bold feature walls, and leadlight windows. It includes a grand formal dining and living zone, a marble kitchen, a sunroom, and landscaped gardens.
