CroatiaA mass was held in Trsat to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the birth of Father Serafin Sabol, known as Serafin Trsatski, who served at the Trsat shrine for three decades. Born on August 30, 1946, in Ivanovc near Cakovec, he joined the Franciscan order in 1963 and became a priest in 1972. He worked in Virovitica, Trsat, Vežica parish, and later in Zagreb’s Sigit. He was appointed guardian of the Trsat shrine in 1981 and led the construction of the church there. From 1987 to 1990, he was vicar and administrator of the Pozega monastery before returning to Trsat, where he continued his service until his death in January 2017. He played a significant role in developing the Marian garden in Trsat, organizing Pope John Paul II’s visit to Rijeka and the Trsat shrine in 2003, and erecting memorials honoring the pope. He received several awards, including the City of Rijeka Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Primorsko-Goranska County administration. Former Archbishop Monsignor Ivan Devčić praised him for his ability to communicate across all groups and for being a man of dialogue.
