Indonesia's Agriculture Ministry and the state-owned Danantara sovereign wealth fund are collaborating to develop an integrated coconut downstream industry aimed at boosting domestic raw material usage, increasing the value of coconut commodities, and creating jobs. Agus Rosyid, a product quality supervisor at the ministry, stated that Danantara has evaluated multiple sites for this initiative, while PTPN has already started working on nucleus coconut plantations in East Java. The project focuses on regions with high coconut availability but limited processing infrastructure. It is designed to support local industries rather than compete with existing processors. This effort aligns with the government's 2025–2045 National Long-Term Development Plan, which aims to expand coconut plantations across approximately 500,000 hectares. However, only 221,000 hectares will be funded by the state by 2027, requiring private investment and Danantara's financial support. The coconut downstreaming plan is part of 26 national strategic projects worth Rp225 trillion.
