The Ministry proposes changes to the vocational qualification, including a significant reduction in deadlines

The Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth in Slovenia has proposed changes to the vocational maturity exam (poklicna matura), including the removal of the option to take the exam in five subjects rather than four. The proposal is currently under public consultation, with comments due by August 25. According to the ministry, the ability to take the exam in five subjects was introduced through a legal amendment but has not been implemented in practice. The proposed changes aim to maintain the current structure of the vocational maturity exam, which has been established and tested in the Slovenian education system. Additionally, the proposal shortens the period during which candidates can request access to their exam documentation, reducing it from three days after results are published to the next day. However, it extends the time for submitting a written objection after reviewing the documents from one day to three days. The State Commission for Vocational Maturity would also be required to submit its annual report to the professional council for adult education, not just the professional council for general education, as those taking the vocational maturity exam include adults.
