Government to build, revitalize 441 regional hospitals: Prabowo

Ministers from two key Indonesian government departments have announced a joint initiative aimed at improving living conditions for families at risk of malnutrition, known as stunting. The Housing and Settlement Areas Ministry (PKP) and the Population and Family Development Ministry (BKKBN) have agreed to collaborate on a home renovation program targeting over 8.1 million households identified as being at risk of stunting. This effort marks a significant step toward addressing the root causes of malnutrition by creating healthier, more habitable environments for vulnerable families. The collaboration was formalized during a meeting between PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait and BKKBN Minister Wihaji. During the discussion, they reviewed potential locations for the renovation program, focusing on areas with high concentrations of stunting-risk families. Initially, BKKBN had proposed renovating homes in nine provinces, but the final agreement included 3,000 units, surpassing the original request. Sirait emphasized the importance of coordination between the ministries to ensure the project progresses efficiently and effectively. He noted that streamlining processes and aligning objectives would help accelerate the delivery of much-needed improvements to these households. Wihaji highlighted the critical role of housing conditions in contributing to stunting, stating that poor living environments exacerbate nutritional deficiencies. According to him, the renovation program represents one of several initiatives designed to support stunting-risk families, alongside other government-led efforts. The ministers also addressed eligibility criteria for beneficiaries, aiming to ensure that aid reaches those most in need. These criteria include adjustments to the minimum duration of residence in unsuitable housing, which has been reduced from three years to just one year. Additionally, the timeframe for individuals who have never received assistance has been halved, from ten to five years. The PKP Ministry has also taken steps to simplify the application process for residents seeking assistance. As part of its ongoing service reforms, the ministry has introduced changes intended to expedite the implementation of housing projects. These modifications reflect a broader commitment to making government services more accessible and responsive to community needs.
