Minister Uttam Reddy rules out storage of water in Kaleshwaram barrages citing NDSA’s advice

Telangana's Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has ruled out storing water in the Kaleshwaram project's Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages, citing recommendations from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA). He criticized the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for demanding the activation of Kannepalli pumphouse, arguing that doing so would release water into structurally compromised barrages. Reddy stated that the previous BRS government was responsible for the damage to the project, which occurred during their tenure, and highlighted failures such as inadequate geotechnical inspections, lack of an operations and maintenance manual, and alleged procedural and financial misconduct. The current government has requested the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe these lapses, though the case remains unresolved.
