At least three devices: Apple introduces AppleCare One in Germany

Apple has introduced its AppleCare One service in Germany, allowing customers to protect up to three devices under a single monthly subscription. The new offering, which expands upon the existing AppleCare+ program, becomes available starting August 4th. It covers accidental damage, battery issues, and theft for eligible devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches. The base price for the service is 20.99 euros per month, with additional coverage for each extra device at 5.99 euros per month. This option complements AppleCare+, which currently offers protection for one device only. The introduction of AppleCare One marks a shift in how Apple provides extended warranty options to its users. Previously, AppleCare+ was limited to 60 days after purchase, but AppleCare One allows coverage for “qualified products” up to four years old. To qualify, customers must provide photographic evidence of their devices, though in some cases, they may need to visit an Apple retail store for inspection. Those who already have AppleCare+ or recently purchased a device can activate AppleCare One directly through their account. Under the new plan, repairs are handled either at an Apple Store or via an authorized Apple Service Provider. For covered devices, AppleCare One includes up to two theft or loss incidents per year, along with battery replacements if the capacity drops below 80 percent. Repairs due to unintentional damage are unlimited, and customers receive priority support from Apple. However, certain items such as MacBooks, Apple TVs, and HomePods are not replaced in case of theft, nor are they included in the coverage for lost or stolen devices. The cost of self-payments, additional fees beyond the subscription, remains high, especially for more expensive models. For example, repairing an Apple Watch costs between 65 and 75 euros, while replacing a stolen one could reach 119 euros. An iPhone repair ranges from 29 to 129 euros depending on the issue, and a MacBook might cost anywhere from 59 to 179 euros. Other devices like Apple Displays or Macs carry even higher self-payment rates, up to 259 euros for non-display-related damage. In contrast, repairs for Apple TVs and HomePod minis start at just 15 euros, and AirPods or Beats headphones require a minimum payment of 29 euros. Battery replacements under AppleCare One do not trigger a self-payment. This expansion of Apple’s warranty services reflects a growing trend among tech companies to offer flexible, multi-device coverage options. By allowing customers to cover multiple devices under a single plan, Apple aims to enhance user satisfaction and reduce long-term repair costs. The move also aligns with increasing consumer demand for comprehensive protection against both hardware failures and security risks. As part of this update, Apple has released updated pricing information for all self-payment scenarios, ensuring transparency for potential subscribers. The availability of AppleCare One in Germany follows its launch in the United States nearly a year earlier.
