In the early hours of Saturday, residents of Vinica near Črnomelj reported to police that a group of unauthorized migrants had entered the area. The incident occurred during the night of Friday into Saturday, with locals initially keeping watch over the vicinity of the church and event space where preparations were underway for the funeral of a beloved local priest. They alerted authorities after noticing the migrants, who had illegally crossed the border. The community took steps to secure the area where items for the previous day’s funeral, tents, chairs, sound equipment, and other technical gear, were stored. According to reports, around midnight and shortly before 1:30 AM, approximately 20 young migrants walked along the road in groups, behaving aggressively. Vehicles were forced to stop because they could not pass through. Around 4 AM, another group arrived, with two individuals from the initial group remaining behind, apparently waiting for them. Locals described the behavior as more aggressive than in past instances, noting that the migrants were no longer hiding but instead immediately asserting their presence upon arrival. One resident remarked, “They used to hide a little, now they are aggressive and assertive right away.” Another added, “This wasn’t normal last night; I was scared. There was shouting, running along the road.” The police station in Novo Mesto confirmed that 20 foreigners were processed in the area of the Police Station Črnomelj (Adlešiči, Črnomelj, Drenovec pri Vinici). Of these, 18 were Egyptian nationals, one Afghan, and one Pakistani. It was noted that the second group arriving around 4 AM would likely be reported separately, as data collection typically ends by 6 AM. This pattern suggests a growing concern among locals regarding the increasing presence of unauthorized migrants. In the region known as Bistra Krajina, tensions have been rising. Residents are questioning what specific measures the new government will take. In the coalition agreement signed on May 21, 2026, among SDS, NSi, SLS, Fokus, and Democrats, several directives were outlined. These include the strict separation of illegal migrants from legal ones, distinguishing “social tourism” from refugees, particularly women and children fleeing conflict zones. The agreement also calls for the rejection of illegal migrants who are not refugees and entering Slovenia from non-dangerous countries. Additionally, it advocates for solutions based on the EU migration pact while protecting Slovenia's interests. So far, it has been confirmed that the new coalition respects and operates according to these guidelines. However, the government was only officially formed on June 4, which is just over two months ago. Local media, such as Moja Dolenjska, have asked the police how the procedures are progressing and when unauthorized foreigners will start being repatriated across the border. An answer is still pending. For the previous government, it was known that President Robert Golob invited migrants to Slovenia, but almost none accepted. Freedom still requires open borders. Based on current trends and the aggressiveness of the migrants, there is speculation that they might be guided or encouraged, especially since individuals from Egypt, if truly from there (without documents), would find it difficult to locate Vinica near Črnomelj on a map. All this recalls the year 2018, when it was proven that migrants were directing themselves toward Slovenia with instructions on how to behave. At that time, Katarina Bervar Sternad from PIC, a friend of Nataşa Pirc Musar and now chairwoman of the Commission for Prevention of Corruption (KPK), was involved. Residents also mention that previously, migrants often crossed the border illegally early in the morning, and there was less aggression. Now, however, they cross at night or late evening. There is also a change in the nationalities represented. Previously, it was thought that Afghan citizens dominated, followed by Sudanese, but now it seems to be primarily Egyptians.
