A major police operation targeting drug trafficking and illegal activities took place in the Barriera di Milano neighborhood of Turin, Italy, involving dogs, drones, and coordinated law enforcement units. The operation, which lasted from late afternoon into the evening, saw the area cordoned off and thoroughly searched by multiple departments of the Italian State Police. Officials confirmed that this was not a one-time intervention but part of a broader strategy to address crime and maintain public order in high-risk areas of the city. The operation resulted in the seizure of over 21,000 Rivotril tablets, commonly known as the “drug of the poor,” which can cause severe effects when consumed in large doses or mixed with alcohol. Other seized substances included crack, amphetamines, cocaine, ketamine, heroin, hashish, and MDMA. During the raid, more than two hundred individuals were identified, predominantly of foreign origin, and eleven arrests were made. One dealer attempted to evade detection by ingesting contraceptive pills, posing a serious risk to his own health. In addition to the drug seizures, twelve individuals were charged with various offenses, including unauthorized immigration, illegal occupation of land and buildings, and violations of authority orders. Authorities issued forty eviction orders from Parco Sempione, fourteen urban disturbances notices, and two expulsion decrees against undocumented foreigners. Support for the operation came from the Crime Prevention Department, the Mobile Unit, and the Railway Police, who increased controls at nearby Torino Rebaudengo-Fossata station, identifying sixty individuals during their checks. Road traffic was also monitored through roadblocks conducted by the Highway Police and Municipal Police. Among the penalties imposed were fines for nine electric scooter riders for serious infractions such as lack of mandatory protective helmets, absence of identification plates, and carrying passengers illegally. These actions underscored the comprehensive nature of the operation, which aimed to restore legality and safety in the community. The operation has been described as a strong signal of the state’s presence, both to criminals and residents who have grown weary of living in areas controlled by undesirable elements. While officials acknowledged that the operation did not resolve all issues affecting the district, they emphasized its role in reinforcing public security and improving quality of life for local citizens. Augusta Montaruli, deputy head of the Friuli d'Italia parliamentary group, praised the government's continued efforts against drug dealing and degradation. She stated that the operation demonstrated the commitment of the authorities to restoring legality and that the fight against crime would continue until these areas are free from disorder. Her comments reflect the political stance that persistent policing is necessary to ensure safe and livable neighborhoods for Torin residents.
