The University of Maribor announced that the European Innovation Council (EIC) has supported the PRECISION-ECS project, aimed at developing a platform to predict individual tumor responses to cannabinoid-based therapies. The Maribor-based company EndoVia Therapeutics convinced evaluators with its idea, securing funding for further development. The two-year project is worth €491,500, with 70% financed by non-repayable EU funds and additional investment support from the regional risk capital fund Vesna VC. The goal is to create a 'digital twin' of tumors by combining live tumor models, molecular analyses, and advanced computational modeling. Initially focused on malignant melanoma, the platform is designed for future expansion to other cancer types. Researchers from the Medical Faculty of the University of Maribor, including Dr. Jan Rožanc, Prof. Dr. Uroš Maver, and Dr. Marko Milojević, founded the company.
