Man, 42, arrested after alleged rape of six year old girl in Limpopo

A 42-year-old man has been arrested in the Ritavi policing area of Limpopo following allegations of raping a six-year-old girl. The incident reportedly took place on July 18 around 8:30 pm, according to Limpopo police. The accused allegedly lured the child and another younger child to his home under the pretense of retrieving a jacket. The children were initially at a family gathering near their home when a neighbor, known to the family, invited them to his residence. When one of the children returned alone, family members checked on the other and discovered her partially undressed at the suspect’s home. The girl reportedly informed her family of the situation, prompting immediate notification to the authorities. Police confirmed that a case of rape was opened and the victim was taken to a local hospital for a medical examination. Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a Limpopo police spokesperson, stated that members of the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit were involved in the investigation. Their efforts led to the suspect’s arrest on July 19. Acting provincial police commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers expressed condemnation over the incident and praised the community for its vigilance and prompt reporting.
