Lyft buys Dublin's Lynk & Limerick's Swift taxi services

Lyft has completed the acquisition of Dublin’s Lynk taxis and Limerick’s Swift taxi service, expanding its presence in Ireland through its subsidiary Freenow by Lyft. The deal marks another step in Lyft’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its foothold in Europe, following its purchase of Freenow in July 2025. The acquisition will integrate both Lynk and Swift into Lyft’s broader transportation network, enhancing service availability and efficiency for users in the region. The two taxi services, Lynk and Swift, are well-established within their respective cities. Lynk, based in Dublin, has operated as a phone-booking taxi dispatcher serving the public sector and numerous local businesses for years. Its services are known for reliability and consistent operation, catering to both individual and corporate clients. Swift, located in Limerick, is recognized under the name 313131 and specializes in dispatching vehicles for clients primarily in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. Both companies have built strong reputations among their communities and have been integral parts of the local transportation landscape. Under the terms of the acquisition, Freenow by Lyft aims to improve pickup times for passengers by increasing the number of active drivers on its platform. Additionally, drivers will benefit from greater access to fare opportunities, as the integration of Lynk and Swift’s fleets expands the pool of available ride providers. Danny O’Gorman, General Manager at Freenow by Lyft Ireland, highlighted the significance of the move, noting that Limerick was one of the first cities where Freenow launched operations in Ireland. Freenow, which was acquired by Lyft in July 2025, currently operates across nine European markets and is headquartered in Germany. Lyft itself was founded in 2012 and has since expanded its offerings beyond traditional ride-sharing to include taxis, bicycles, and scooters across six continents.
