LP better positioned to sweep Abia in 2027, says State Chairman

The Labour Party (LP) in Abia State appears poised to dominate the upcoming 2027 general elections, according to Hon. Peter Azubuike, the state chairman of the party. Speaking at a press briefing at the party's secretariat in Umuahia, Azubuike emphasized that the LP has become stronger, more unified, and better organized than ever before. His remarks came amid growing speculation about the political dynamics in Abia, particularly following the tenure of Governor Alex Otti, who has been credited with transforming the state's political landscape.

Azubuike highlighted several key developments within the LP, including the reconciliation of previously disgruntled members, the strengthening of grassroots networks, and the establishment of a strategic plan aimed at securing electoral victories. He pointed out that the party has successfully consolidated its structures across the state, ensuring that it has a robust foundation to build upon for the next election cycle. According to him, the LP's current strength is not merely due to being the ruling party but rather its deep-rooted presence in the communities of Abia.

The chairman also addressed the ongoing leadership dispute within the party, dismissing the faction led by Julius Abure as "a headless snake" that lacks any real political influence. He asserted that the LP remains a single, cohesive entity and urged members of the Abure faction to return to the fold. Despite his strong stance against the faction, Azubuike left the door open for their potential reintegration, emphasizing that the party is inclusive and welcomes all members.

In addition to addressing internal matters, Azubuike spoke highly of Governor Alex Otti's administration, crediting it with revitalizing public morale and fostering a renewed sense of pride among Abian citizens. He argued that the governor's policies have created a solid political foundation that extends beyond the influence of the 2023 presidential campaign of Peter Obi. According to Azubuike, the political momentum generated by Otti began well before the recent elections and has continued to grow over time.

The LP's current position is bolstered by its control over key political offices in the state, including councils, local government chairmanships, and a majority representation in the State House of Assembly. These positions provide the party with significant leverage and resources to influence political outcomes. Azubuike expressed confidence that the LP would achieve a decisive victory if elections were held immediately, citing the party's strong grassroots support and the positive impact of the Otti administration.
