Left-wing extremists attacked an AfD member police should look away

According to Schumann, the authorities did not intervene promptly. In addition to the physical assault, Schumann noted that participants' vehicles were vandalized, with unknown individuals cutting tires of several parked cars. He expressed surprise that the masked individuals could remain on site despite the presence of police. The incident took place just before the official start of the gathering, which was organized under the slogan “Day of German Youth.” Police have not yet released detailed information about the incident or the identities of the suspects, according to the German press agency dpa. The rally saw approximately 420 supporters of AfD's youth organization, while around 460 opponents gathered nearby, attempting to drown out speakers and block the procession through chanting and roadblocks. However, these attempts were unsuccessful, as organizers, in collaboration with the police, altered the route of the march at the last moment. The police then used security barriers to separate the two groups, with a heightened number of officers present in the city center, including personnel from other German states. Among the speakers at the event were regional leaders of AfD in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Leif-Erik Holm, and Enrico Schult, along with national spokesperson Jean-Pascal Hohm for the organization Generation Germany. The demonstration highlighted ongoing tensions between right-wing and left-wing activists in Germany, with both sides engaging in confrontations over political ideology and public space usage. The police have not commented further on the incident, though they have confirmed that the area was under increased surveillance following the disturbance.
