Max Miller Vows To Stand At Midterms as He Denies Abuse Allegations

A lawyer representing Emily Moreno, the ex-wife of U.S. Representative Max Miller, filed a request with a court on Thursday for a restraining order to prevent the Ohio congressman from contacting her legal counsel. The move comes amid ongoing allegations of abuse by Miller, which he has consistently denied. Moreno, whose father is Republican Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio, is seeking to block Miller from communicating directly with her attorney, Andrew Zashin, following multiple incidents involving both Zashin and another attorney. Moreno’s legal team cited several instances in court filings where Miller allegedly engaged in physical and verbal confrontations with Zashin and other members of her legal team. These incidents reportedly occurred after recent court hearings related to an ongoing custody dispute over their shared daughter, whom they have jointly raised since their brief marriage in 2022, which ended in June 2025. According to the filings, after a May court hearing, Moreno claimed that Miller publicly insulted Zashin’s fiancée in front of witnesses at an Ohio courthouse. More recently, she alleged that Miller physically grabbed Zashin and another attorney following a hearing this week. In an affidavit submitted to the court, Moreno stated that unless restricted, Miller would continue to harass, threaten, and contact her legal representatives directly. She further alleged that Miller had similarly harassed and threatened previous legal teams working on her behalf. The filings highlight a pattern of behavior that Moreno says has escalated since the initial allegations of abuse were made public. Representing a Republican-leaning district in the Cleveland area, Miller is currently running for a third term in Congress. According to the police report, Moreno arrived at Miller’s home to pick up their daughter, where she claimed Miller threw her against a wall, leaving visible marks on her upper arm and causing bruises to her stomach and side. A county child protection specialist was consulted regarding another alleged incident occurring two weeks later, leading to the diagnosis of a mid-right clavicle fracture in the child. The officer noted that a bruise accompanying the injury appeared to be a handprint and likely inflicted by someone else. Moreno informed police that after spending time with Miller, the child reportedly said to her, “Daddy kill you.” When Moreno emailed Miller about the child’s statement, he denied that the child would have heard anything like that from him, according to the police report. Additional allegations include another domestic incident in March 2025 and an instance where Miller allegedly held a gun to Moreno’s head. The Feb. 1 report and other court filings from Moreno’s legal team also reference an incident in 2024 when Miller allegedly threw hot water from a pan of eggs he had just cooked onto Moreno after she expressed her intention to leave him. Following the media coverage of these allegations, Miller initiated a defamation lawsuit against Moreno, claiming substantial reputational and financial damage from her accusations.
