Law tops Korea’s list of most AI-exposed professions

A government labor research institute in South Korea reported that lawyers are the profession most exposed to artificial intelligence, with legal assistants, patent attorneys, and accountants following closely. The study analyzed 415 occupations and found that 19.1% of workers covered by the employment insurance system are in high AI-exposure roles. Workers in their 30s make up 53.1% of those in medium or high exposure jobs. While generative AI has not clearly caused a broader employment slowdown, younger workers in highly exposed fields experienced sharper employment declines since 2022. The report warns that economic and demographic factors, such as a shrinking youth population, may also contribute to these trends and urges the development of AI competency indicators to help job seekers match their skills with suitable positions.
