Late field goal lifts Lions to win over Tiger-Cats

VANCOUVER, The B.C. Lions secured a hard-fought 27-24 victory over the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday, with a late field goal sealing the result in a tightly contested match at BC Place. Veteran kicker Sean Whyte converted a 24-yard attempt with 28 seconds remaining to give the Lions their first win at home this season. Quarterback Nathan Rourke returned from a shoulder injury to lead the Lions with 370 passing yards, completing 22 of his 39 attempts. His efforts included touchdown passes to Zander Horvath and Justin McInnis. Horvath contributed significantly, scoring two touchdowns and adding a major. Whyte successfully kicked two of his three field goals, helping the Lions improve to 3-5. The Tiger-Cats, meanwhile, managed 239 passing yards from Harrison Frost, who completed 20 of his 33 attempts. The Lions mounted a comeback in the third quarter, reaching the one-yard line and scoring a touchdown via Horvath. Whyte attempted a 43-yard field goal but was blocked by Mario Kendricks Jr. The Lions regained possession when Darnell Sankey intercepted Frost’s pass, and defensive back Williams returned it 39 yards before being tackled. Whyte opened the fourth quarter with a 33-yard field goal, putting the Lions ahead 21-17. Hamilton responded with a long pass from Frost to Myron Mitchell, setting up a touchdown by Dolegala. The game remained close until the final moments, with Whyte’s late field goal ultimately deciding the outcome.
