According to statements made during interrogations, Franco claimed he and his brother Dino were away in the fields around 10:30 PM on the night of the attack, while Luisella remained inside. He alleged that she was responsible for setting the fire, though he denied direct involvement. The prosecution’s final report, however, states that both Franco and Dino fled to the fields after preparing the attack. During a previous interrogation, Franco told authorities that he did not target the carabinieri but rather the judicial custodian, whom he accused of initiating the eviction process. He insisted that the act was not premeditated and that Luisella alone was responsible for igniting the blaze. His account contradicts the official narrative, which suggests the attack was carefully planned. The friend, who consulted tarot cards, allegedly warned him that “they are ready to await us, they are prepared,” suggesting a sense of foreboding.
