Krka's new multi-purpose facility further improves health, safety and welfare of employees

The article reports on the completion of a new multi-purpose facility at Krka, highlighting improvements in workplace safety, health, and employee well-being. The project, which involved collaboration between local experts and external specialists, was completed within the planned timeframe despite challenging spatial conditions and concurrent production processes. The facility includes modern spaces for occupational safety and hygiene services, a laboratory for industrial hygiene testing, improved access for visitors and external contractors, and a state-of-the-art kitchen capable of preparing over a million meals annually. The management emphasized that this investment reflects the company’s commitment to employee welfare and long-term development.

Krka, a pharmaceutical company based in Slovenia, has officially opened a new multi-functional building designed to enhance employee health, safety, and well-being. The facility, which covers over 6,000 square meters of gross area, was completed within the planned timeframe despite challenging spatial conditions and concurrent production processes. The project involved collaboration between numerous internal and external experts, reflecting Krka’s commitment to investing in its workforce. The building includes modern energy-efficient solutions, improved work organization, and higher service levels for employees. It marks a significant step forward in Krka's infrastructure, aimed at supporting both operational efficiency and long-term growth. The new structure was inaugurated with remarks from Milena Kastelic, a member of the board and head of human resources. She emphasized that caring for employees is one of Krka’s core values, stating that the new building represents an investment in people. “We have created a modern environment that combines care for workplace safety and health with quality nutrition for our employees,” she said. “Such investments significantly contribute to the well-being of our staff, the quality of their working environment, and the long-term development of the company.” Construction of the building began in August 2024, and it received its occupancy permit in May 2026. From the start of construction to the move into the new premises, less than two years passed, a feat achieved through careful planning and execution. The new facility replaces the former central kitchen, whose usable area was nearly three times smaller. This expansion allows Krka to better meet the growing demands of its workforce while improving overall operational efficiency. A major portion of the new building is dedicated to the Service for Safety and Health at Work. Previously, these functions were spread across different locations, but now they are consolidated under one roof, enabling more effective operation of specialized services. Among the key additions is a laboratory for industrial hygiene measurements, enhancing the company’s ability to monitor and maintain safe working conditions. The new entrance building improves access to the industrial site and streamlines entry procedures for employees, visitors, and external contractors. External contractors can now receive recognizable cards directly at the reception, a process that will save time and increase efficiency. Over 2,800 such cards are issued annually, making this improvement particularly valuable. Additionally, the building features a covered transition area for trucks, ensuring safer and more efficient logistics operations in all weather conditions. Half of the new building is allocated to social catering, with the centerpiece being a state-of-the-art central kitchen. Designed to prepare up to 5,500 meals per day, over a million annually, the kitchen incorporates advanced technology, including a centralized storage system. This ensures greater control over food preparation processes, improved traceability, quality assurance, and more flexible scheduling. New transportation solutions help maintain optimal meal temperatures until delivery. The new kitchen also provides better, safer, and ergonomically suitable working conditions for employees. Bright, well-ventilated spaces equipped with the latest ventilation systems support a healthier work environment. Energy efficiency is another key feature, with the new kitchen consuming approximately 30 percent less energy compared to the previous one. Modern electric equipment, smart load management systems, and waste heat recovery solutions contribute to responsible resource use and reduced carbon footprint. While advanced technology aids daily operations, the skilled team of professionals remains central to the success of the social dining program. The completion of the new building underscores Krka’s ongoing efforts to create a supportive and sustainable work environment. As the company continues to expand, this facility is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining high standards of employee welfare and operational excellence.
