ReporterIndependentCenter5 days ago In the heat of hell, fires threatenLocal mayors and representatives of the Slovenian administration are considering implementing fire danger alerts due to extreme heat and dry conditions, which significantly increase the risk of wildfires. Mayor of Sežana, Andrej Sila, confirmed discussions about declaring a heightened fire danger level, noting that the current hot spell has dried out vegetation, increasing the likelihood of fires compared to two weeks ago. Preventive measures would include stricter awareness campaigns against burning vegetation and increased monitoring on the ground. The decision to declare such a warning depends on weather conditions, though meteorologists predict rain by Wednesday. Similar considerations are being made in other municipalities like Divača and Hrpelje-Kozina, where local authorities are waiting for responses from firefighters and civil protection before taking action. The administration also monitors wildfire risks nationwide and notes that while some models indicate elevated fire danger, most areas have not yet reached complete desiccation.

Local mayors have indicated that they might announce such a declaration today or tomorrow, depending on weather forecasts. The decision would involve increased preventive measures, such as raising awareness about the ban on burning vegetation in nature and increasing surveillance on the ground. While meteorologists predict rain by Wednesday, local leaders remain cautious, noting that if the rainfall does not reach the Karst area, the fire danger level will likely be officially declared. Municipalities have the authority to declare fire danger independently but must inform the Protection and Rescue Administration afterward. The administration is also monitoring the situation and could issue an official declaration soon if conditions warrant.
