Concert by the Symphony Orchestra of the Auditorium of Alicante ADDA

The 74th Ljubljana Festival will feature a concert by the Auditorium Orchestra of Alicante ADDA on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 8 p.m., held in the Gallus Hall of Cankarjev Dom. The event has undergone a change in its lineup due to health reasons affecting one of the soloists. Amanda Forsyth, who was originally scheduled to perform, will not be able to take part. In her place, the esteemed Italian violinist Enrico Dindo will join the orchestra under the baton of chief conductor Joseph Vicente, alongside the renowned interpreter Pinchas Zukerman, who will serve as assistant conductor. Enrico Dindo, formerly the first violinist of the prestigious Milanese Scala and a member of the prestigious Santa Cecilia Academy, is considered one of the most prominent artists of his generation in Europe. Among his notable achievements is winning the First Prize at the International Violin Competition named after Mstislav Rostropovich in Paris. The legendary Rostropovich described him as an exceptional musician with a unique sound range that captivates audiences with authentic Italian lyricism. As founder of the ensemble I Solisti di Pavia and former music director of the Croatian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Zagreb, Dindo regularly performs with leading world orchestras under the direction of conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Riccardo Chailly, and Valery Gergiev. His rich artistic journey is complemented by dedicated pedagogical work and playing on a rare instrument crafted by the master luthier Pietro Giacomo Rogeri in 1717. The program has been revised, replacing the initially announced performance of Don Quixote by Richard Strauss with a vibrant and richly composed work. The concert will open with Camille Saint-Saëns' Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 1 in A minor, Op. 33, performed by Enrico Dindo. This piece deviates from the traditional three-movement structure, unfolding in a continuous narrative where the violin plays a central dramatic role. Following this, Pinchas Zukerman will take on the solo role in Ludwig van Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61. Considered one of the foundational works of the violin repertoire, this concerto emphasizes wide lyrical expression over external virtuosity, presenting a nearly symphonic musical statement. The evening will conclude with a dramatically intense performance of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36. One of his most personal compositions, the work carries the central idea of fate, which emerges early in the opening fanfare and guides listeners through internal struggles toward a triumphant finale.
