Ministry of Agriculture to speed up the procedures for obtaining aid

Slovenia is currently facing severe drought conditions exacerbated by prolonged hot and dry weather. Local thunderstorms in recent weeks have not provided sufficient rainfall, with some areas receiving only minimal precipitation. The Ministry of Agriculture, led by Minister Janez Cigler Kralj, is working to expedite the process of providing financial assistance to farmers affected by last year's drought and heatwave. According to the minister, around 12 million euros in aid has already been allocated and is expected to be disbursed in August. The ministry is seeking efficient solutions to speed up compensation payments, which typically take a year due to delays in assessing crop prices by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SURS). Additionally, Slovenia is seeking support from the European Commission to access funds from the EU's agricultural reserve, with approximately 2.8 million euros allocated for Slovenia. The implementation plan will be adopted by July 30, allowing the government limited time to prepare measures to distribute these funds effectively.
