Swimming off the island of Savo is not recommended

The first analysis of natural swimming water quality in Kranj for 2026 has shown that water at Čukov Bajer and Kokra near Kosorep is suitable for swimming, while swimming in the Sava near Savska Otoka is currently discouraged. The results were shared by the Municipality of Kranj. Water quality is monitored at three popular natural bathing sites: Čukov Bajer in the Natural Reserve of Clay Bajers near Bobovka, Kokra near Kosorep, and Sava near Savska Otoka. The National Laboratory for Health, Environment, and Food conducted sampling twice a year, with the first sample taken mid-June. Analysis showed that water quality at Čukov Bajer and Kokra meets recommendations from the National Institute for Public Health. Swimming in the Sava is not recommended due to contamination caused by short-term effects of heavy rainfall and surface runoff before sampling. Due to potential rapid changes in water quality influenced by rain, high water levels, and other natural factors, additional measurements will be carried out during the summer months.

The Municipality of Kranj monitors water quality at three popular natural bathing sites: Čukov Bajer in the Natural Reserve of Clay Bajers on Bobovka, Kokra near Kosorep, and the Sava near Savski Otok. Initial testing by the National Institute of Public Health showed good water quality at the first two locations, meeting health recommendations. However, the Sava near Savski Otok has temporarily poor water quality due to short-term pollution caused by heavy rains and surface runoff before sampling. The municipality plans additional tests throughout the summer and will publish results to inform visitors about conditions at these popular natural swimming spots.
