Spider-Man remains at the top of the box office, but the gap to The Odyssey is not that big.
New Spider-Man remained the most watched movie in Slovenian cinemas over the weekend, but its lead over other films was not as significant as the number of screenings might suggest. While Spider-Man was shown on 50 large screens, Odyssey was available on 20 larger screens but lagged behind by less than two thousand viewers. Spider-Man's drop in attendance compared to the previous weekend was nearly 34 percent, while Odyssey's decline was 11 percent. In total, Odyssey reached approximately 93,000 viewers, while Spider-Man reached around 48,000. Other notable films included the children's movie Patrolman: Dino-Film, which performed adequately but did not set records, and the animated film Minions and the Poop, which collected almost 46,000 viewers after a month and a half in theaters. The biographical drama Michael returned to the top ten, having attracted nearly 65,000 viewers, making it one of the bigger surprises of the year. Meanwhile, Spielberg's film The Lost World failed to attract Slovenian audiences, collecting only 13,000 viewers after more than two months in theaters. The horror film Obsession continued to play in cinemas for its thirteenth weekend, now showing on only 300
Spider-Man: Brand New Day remained the top-grossing film in Slovenia during its second weekend, though its lead over The Odyssey was slim. The superhero movie maintained its position at number one on the box office chart, but the gap in audience numbers between the two films was less than 2,000 viewers. Brand New Day was shown on 50 large screens, while The Odyssey played on 20 larger screens. Despite this, The Odyssey came close to reaching 93,000 viewers, compared to Brand New Day's 48,000. The drop in attendance for Brand New Day compared to the previous weekend was nearly 34 percent, while The Odyssey saw a decline of just 11 percent. This marked a notable shift in the box office landscape, with The Odyssey gaining ground despite fewer screens. Meanwhile, Patrol: Dino-Film, a children's sequel based on the popular animated series, emerged as a new highlight of the weekend, drawing a respectable but not record-breaking crowd. Animated films such as Minions: The Rise of Gru continued to perform well, having accumulated almost 46,000 viewers since their release a month and a half ago. Among other entries in the top ten, the biographical drama Michael returned after some time away, amassing nearly 65,000 viewers and standing out as a surprise success of the year. In contrast, Steven Spielberg’s The Lost City struggled to attract audiences, managing only 13,000 viewers over two months. Another long-running title, Obsession, continued to draw crowds, staying in theaters for its thirteenth weekend and accumulating nearly 23,000 viewers, although it was now playing on only three screens. Total cinema attendance for the weekend reached 35,814, which was 1,500 fewer than the previous weekend but 5,500 more than the weekend before that. The fluctuation highlights the dynamic nature of the box office, with different films capturing varying levels of public interest. In North America, Spider-Man: Brand New Day surpassed $700 million in ticket sales within less than two weeks of its release, according to reports. The film, starring Tom Holland, achieved this milestone in just 13 days, making it the fastest film ever to reach that figure in the region. It grossed approximately $168 million on its opening day alone, breaking the previous record set by Avengers: Endgame (2019), which earned $157 million in its debut. Globally, Brand New Day has already earned around $1.8 billion in its first two weeks, securing its place among the highest-grossing films of all time. It joined an exclusive list that includes Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Avatar (2009), Top Gun: Maverick (2022), and Black Panther (2018). These films have all crossed the $700 million threshold in North America within similar timeframes. The film's success was evident even before its release, with its trailer garnering 718.6 million views in the first 24 hours, setting a new record for the most views in a 24-hour period for a film trailer. This surpasses the previous record held by Spider-Man: No Way Home, which had 355.5 million views in its first 24 hours. The trailer later exceeded one billion views, becoming the first film trailer to achieve that milestone. Sony and Marvel's collaboration continues to dominate the cinematic landscape, with Brand New Day proving to be a major financial success. Its performance has solidified its status as the highest-grossing film of 2026 and placed it among the top ten most successful films in history on both international and global scales. The film's impact extends beyond box office figures, influencing audience expectations and setting new benchmarks for future releases.
