The old bridge on the Béla Bartók road in Buda has been raised

The old railway bridge over Bartók Béla Avenue in the 11th district of Budapest was removed last Sunday as part of the expansion of the Southern Ring Railway. The bridge, which had a span of 67 meters and two tracks, is being replaced by two new steel structures, each with two tracks. One of these temporary structures has already been put into operation. The new steel bridge, weighing more than 1,400 tons, was moved into place meter by meter rather than lifted by cranes. On the first day, the structure advanced nearly 20 meters, but progress slowed afterward, with experts moving it approximately 10 meters per day. The total cost of the second phase of the Southern Ring Railway project is 364.5 billion forints, funded by European Union support and domestic resources. The development of the Southern Ring Railway is Hungary's largest rail project, alongside the construction of the Budapest-Belgrade railway line. The government is investing hundreds of billions of forints to rebuild the railway track between Kelenföld and Népliget, increasing the number of tracks, building new bridges, and constructing new stations. The European Union provided 113 billion forints in support of this投资.
