Kia sold the most electric vans in Europe this year, according to recent data from ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association. The Kia PV5 has emerged as the top-selling electric van in the region, with sales rising sharply in the segment of light commercial vehicles. Overall, sales of electric light commercial vehicles in Europe increased by 37.5% year-on-year, reaching a market share of 13.9%. More than 13,000 units of the PV5 were sold during the first half of the year alone, capturing 37% of the electric van market in the competitive C-segment. The PV5 became the best-selling electric van in 12 European countries, including Germany and the United Kingdom. In Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden, it was the top-selling van regardless of power type. Sjoerd Knipping, chief operations director of Kia Europe, noted the exceptional customer response to the PV5's launch in Europe. He emphasized that Kia’s PBV strategy involves a fully integrated ecosystem combining software, services, and flexible ownership models. Designed for real-world usage, the PV5 was developed on Kia’s E-GMP.S platform with a focus on practicality. It features a small turning radius, low loading height, and a modular body that simplifies servicing. The model surpassed 50% of the market share in five countries, including Denmark (63%) and Ireland (62%). The vehicle has won numerous awards, including the title of “International Van of the Year 2026.” Its passenger version was named “Family Car of the Year” by BBC TopGear.com. The PV5 Cargo set a Guinness World Record by traveling 693.38 kilometers on a single charge. Kia plans to continue expanding its PBV portfolio with the introduction of the PV7 model in 2027 and the PV9 model in 2029. The company aims to create a flexible mobility ecosystem with more than 40 body variants tailored to the needs of businesses and private users. This expansion aligns with Kia’s broader strategy to offer diverse solutions in the growing electric vehicle market. The success of the PV5 reflects a broader trend toward electrification in the commercial vehicle sector. As environmental regulations tighten and consumer preferences shift toward sustainability, manufacturers are increasingly focusing on developing efficient and versatile electric models. Kia’s approach combines technological innovation with practical design elements that address the specific needs of commercial users. The PV5’s performance highlights the increasing demand for electric vehicles in both personal and professional settings. With its modular design and advanced features, the PV5 offers flexibility that traditional combustion engine vans struggle to match. This adaptability has contributed significantly to its popularity across multiple markets. Kia’s continued investment in the PBV segment underscores its commitment to leading the transition to electric mobility. By introducing new models and expanding its product range, the company aims to meet the evolving demands of consumers and businesses alike. The PV5’s achievements provide a solid foundation for future growth in the electric van market.
