KGZS expects a thorough investigation into the suspected torture of animals in Križevci

The Kmetijska gozdarska zbornica Slovenije (KGZS) has expressed its expectation that authorities will conduct a thorough investigation into allegations of animal cruelty at a farm in Križevci. The incident came to light after reports of neglect involving cattle on the property of farmer Marjan Špur, who works as a specialist for cattle breeding at the Kmetijsko gozdarski zavod Murska Sobota. In response, the KGZS emphasized its stance against any form of animal mistreatment and called for patience until official findings are made. According to the latest update, the Veterinary Service, Food Safety Authority, and Plant Protection Office informed the public on Friday that they had discovered five dead cows on the farm, three of which were in extremely poor condition. One animal was euthanized, while the other two live cows were handed back to the owner. These findings prompted the authorities to initiate an investigation into potential violations of animal welfare laws. The KGZS reiterated that it does not interfere with internal decisions made by independent institutions such as the Murska Sobota Cattle Breeding Institute. It clarified that as an employer, the institute independently decides on any necessary actions regarding its employees. The organization stressed that it would not engage in any interference with the decision-making process of the institution. In their statement, the KGZS condemned all forms of animal cruelty and emphasized that anyone found responsible must take full responsibility. They also criticized public stigmatization of individuals before official investigations conclude and all relevant circumstances are known. The organization underscored that such incidents should not reflect the broader situation within Slovenia’s livestock sector. The KGZS further noted that this case represents an isolated incident and does not represent the general state of affairs in the country's agricultural industry. They pointed out that the majority of Slovenian farmers care responsibly, professionally, and passionately for their animals, prioritizing their well-being, health, and quality of life.
