Kejelcha breaks men's half marathon world record by 29 seconds

Ethiopian athlete Yomif Kejelcha has broken the men's half marathon world record, achieving a time of 56 minutes 51 seconds at a World Athletics road race in Buenos Aires. This performance improved upon his previous record of 57:30, which he had set in Valencia in October 2024 before losing it to Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo in March. Kiplimo had previously set a time of 57:20 in Lisbon, but Kejelcha's latest result of 56:51 reduces that gap by 29 seconds. The new record is pending official confirmation. Kejelcha, who also earned a silver medal in the 10,000m at the World Track Championships, holds the world record for the men's 10,000m road race. Additionally, he was part of a historic sub-two-hour marathon effort in London, where Kenyan runner Sebastian Sawe set a record time of 1:59:30, narrowly edging out Kejelcha by 11 seconds.
