Katseye follows intuition, embraces freedom in 3rd EP

Katseye has released its third EP, Wild, showcasing a bold exploration of self-expression and liberation through music. The five-track collection, unveiled on Friday, marks a new phase in the K-pop girl group’s journey since their debut two years prior. According to their management company, the EP delves into themes of trusting one’s instincts, emotional authenticity, and rejecting external pressures, all while celebrating personal freedom. The EP opens with the lead single “Hootie Frutti,” a dynamic dance number infused with Brazilian phonk rhythms, sharp drum patterns, and polished pop production. Its music video mirrors the track’s exuberant tone, featuring vibrant carnival aesthetics, striking choreography, and eye-catching fashion choices that emphasize a sense of unburdened joy. This visual concept aligns with the song’s message of shedding constraints and living freely. In addition to the lead track, Wild includes previously released singles “Pinky Up” and “Animal,” both of which had already demonstrated the group’s growing appeal. The EP also features two additional songs, “Bel Air” and “That Way”, that span multiple musical styles such as dance-pop, electronic dance music (EDM), and modern synth-driven pop. The creative process behind Wild involved contributions from a range of international artists. Hybe chairman Bang Si-hyuk took part in composing and writing the lyrics for “Pinky Up.” Meanwhile, well-known artist Ed Sheeran collaborated with producers Omer Fedi and Blake Slatkin on “Animal,” contributing both composition and lyrical elements. Producers Patrik Berger and Johnny Goldstein worked together on the lyrics and composition of “Bel Air” and “That Way.” The anticipation surrounding Wild was fueled by the success of the group’s earlier releases. “Pinky Up” achieved notable rankings, peaking at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching No. 14 on the UK Official Singles Chart, the highest position the group had ever attained on the British chart. Following this achievement, “Animal” continued to build momentum, debuting at No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also secured spots on Spotify’s charts, climbing to No. 8 on the Weekly Top Songs Global list and No. 5 on the Daily Top Songs Global chart, both representing new milestones for the group. The group’s rise in popularity has been marked by consistent growth in both domestic and international markets. Their previous work laid a foundation for greater recognition, and Wild appears poised to solidify their status as a rising force in global pop culture.
