General Director of Carabiners Marcelo Araya ordered the deployment of all available specialized resources, led by personnel from the Special Police Operational Group (GOPE), with the aim of locating and apprehending the perpetrator. From the government, Minister of Security Martín Arrau announced that legal proceedings would be initiated to pursue "the maximum penalty allowed by law." In similar terms, President Kast stated, "While thousands of Carabineros are deployed to protect Chileans and support emergency efforts, there are criminals who continue attacking them." He added, "We have allocated all necessary resources to capture this violent attacker and ensure he is judged and sentenced by justice," he said via social media platform X. Minutes after his statement, the president held a press conference following a meeting of the Committee for Disaster Risk Management (COGRID) in Concepción. During the session, he outlined discussions regarding potential budget adjustments due to recent disasters. He mentioned plans to visit the locality of Penco and possibly meet with the mayor of Tomé, which has also suffered significant damage. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to restore electrical supply, particularly focusing on critical infrastructure. "In the coming hours, you will see the electricity supply being gradually restored, especially concerning critical infrastructure and electric-dependent systems," he noted. He acknowledged the complexity ahead, particularly regarding the drying out of homes and the sanitation of affected residences. "We cannot give up because it is likely we will continue to face adverse weather conditions. For this reason, we must remain organized and united," he said. Addressing concerns raised by the governor of the Biobío region, Sergio Giacamán, about the use of 2 percent of regional disaster funds for previous fires, the president assured open communication channels between the regional government and the central government. "These communications will remain open, always respecting legality and within the framework of the Budget Law and regional budgets, making specific modifications and budget adjustments to address emergencies. This will always comply with the parameters set by the oversight authority," he explained.
