In the lead-up to the upcoming municipal elections in Prague, Tomáš Portlík, first vice-president of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) and head of the joint ODS and TOP 09 candidate list for the position of mayor, has categorically denied any agreement with the ANO movement. This statement comes as part of a broader campaign strategy aimed at securing a majority in the capital city's upcoming vote on October 9 and 10.

Portlík, who is running alongside Michal Hroz of TOP 09 and former deputy mayor Alexandra Udženija of ODS, emphasized his commitment to improving transportation infrastructure, housing availability, and education quality in Prague. His campaign promises include completing additional sections of both internal and external traffic circles around the city, accelerating housing construction to stabilize property prices, increasing school capacities, enhancing security, and expanding mental health care services for all age groups. These priorities reflect a focus on urban development and public welfare, aiming to address long-standing issues faced by Prague residents.

The coalition between ODS and TOP 09 was formalized through a signed coalition agreement, marking a strategic alliance intended to strengthen their chances in the election. The current governing coalition in Prague, led by Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda of ODS, consists of the parties Together, Pirates, and STAN. However, Svoboda has decided not to seek re-election, prompting the need for new leadership in the city.

Portlík expressed confidence that his coalition could secure more than 50 percent of the votes, which would allow them to govern independently without needing to form alliances with other political entities such as ANO. This stance highlights the importance of maintaining a clear distinction between ODS and other political movements, particularly in light of recent media attention surrounding the return of Roman Janoušek, a prominent figure associated with the ODS.

During a recent conference, ODS discussed several policy proposals aimed at reforming higher education, including reducing the duration of university programs and introducing payment requirements for students. Additionally, the party proposed increasing patient co-payments and raising the number of patients per healthcare provider, reflecting a broader agenda focused on economic efficiency and resource management within the public sector.

As the election approaches, the dynamics among political parties in Prague remain fluid. While ODS and its allies aim to consolidate support, they must also contend with potential challenges posed by competing coalitions and shifting voter preferences.
