Kano completes 867 of 1,557 projects, says commissioner

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's administration has completed 867 of the 1,557 projects initiated since the government took office, according to the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Nura Maaji. The announcement was made during a media briefing held in Kano on Sunday. These completed projects constitute 55.68 per cent of the total classified projects, with another 42 per cent currently underway. The projects span multiple sectors including urban infrastructure, rural development, mass housing, road construction, bridge building, healthcare, education, and traffic management. The cumulative contract value of all these projects amounts to N996.29 billion. Of this sum, N695.20 billion has received Notices of No Objection, and N444.75 billion has been approved through payment certificates after being reviewed by the ministry responsible for monitoring and evaluation. Of the total number of projects, 598 have been executed within the eight metropolitan Local Government Areas (LGAs). These projects collectively amount to N299.36 billion, which represents 30.01 per cent of the overall contract value. Meanwhile, the remaining 653 projects have been implemented in the 36 rural LGAs, totaling N287.90 billion, or 28.90 per cent of the total value. Cross-cutting projects, those affecting more than one LGA, are valued at N159.50 billion. Additionally, projects that cover the entire state or other broad interventions have a combined value of N249.54 billion. Some major initiatives include the N113.19 billion mass housing scheme in Rijiyar Gwangwan, located in Dawakin Kudu, the N24.77 billion Katsina Road expansion in Fagge and Dala LGAs, and the N21.90 billion Modern Cities infrastructure program. Other notable projects mentioned include the N27.74 billion Madobi-Yako-Kafin Maiyaki-Kiru Road improvement and the N22 billion Rural Model City Project designed to benefit the 36 rural LGAs. However, some large-scale projects such as the Dawakin Kudu Mass Housing initiative and the Rural Model City Housing project remain pending certain procedural approvals. Financial oversight mechanisms have ensured that N444.75 billion in payment certificates have been verified so far. This figure accounts for 44.64 per cent of the total contract value and makes up around 63.97 per cent of the N695.20 billion that has received Notices of No Objection. The ministry continues to oversee the execution of projects, aiming to resolve any obstacles encountered and enhance the certification process to guarantee optimal use of funds. The administration has emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability throughout the project lifecycle. Ongoing efforts focus on ensuring that each phase of project implementation adheres to established standards and protocols. As part of these efforts, officials are committed to addressing any challenges that could hinder progress and ensuring that resources allocated to various developmental activities yield maximum benefits for the populace. The completion of nearly half of the projects undertaken by the governor's administration underscores the pace at which infrastructure and social development initiatives are being carried out across Kano State. With continued emphasis on monitoring and evaluation, the government aims to maintain momentum in delivering on its promises to the citizens of Kano.
