Radio Ognjišče has accused itself of being the target of malicious discrediting campaigns, claiming that recent online accusations against it are unfounded and politically motivated. The station stated that these allegations, which focus on its past programming related to a Russian estate, have been circulating again after the public attention shifted toward President Nataša Pirc Musar’s friendship with a Russian woman who holds Slovenian citizenship. According to Radio Ognjišče, the claims suggest that the station collaborates with certain political circles, a charge it categorically denies. The controversy began several years ago when Radio Ognjišče aired programs focused on the cultural and historical significance of a Russian estate. These programs were described as non-political and educational in nature, aiming to highlight the heritage and history of the property. However, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the station terminated its business cooperation with the Russian estate. In response, Radio Ognjišče clarified that its partnership with the Russian estate had ended long before the start of the presidential campaign. It pointed out that there were no official announcements regarding Nataša Pirc Musar’s candidacy until June 2022, and the election took place on October 23, 2022. The station emphasized that it had no involvement in any actions that could be interpreted as supporting her candidacy, nor did it believe that it had ever acted under political pressure. Recent accusations against the station have intensified following reports of President Pirc Musar's close relationship with a Russian citizen holding Slovenian nationality.
