What about the Black Cube case?

The police have confirmed that they have established a working group to investigate the case involving Black Cube, following months of speculation and allegations of Israeli involvement in Slovenian elections. Three legal entities are currently overseeing the proceedings: the local public prosecutor’s office in Ljubljana, a specialized state prosecutor’s office, and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). Although the EPPO was recently included in the investigation, it has not yet issued a response, despite its jurisdiction over crimes affecting EU financial interests. The inclusion of the EPPO marks a notable shift in the scope of the investigation, suggesting that authorities are considering broader implications beyond national borders. However, the exact stage of the inquiry remains unclear. Based on reports that criminal investigators are intensively collecting information from victims, there is growing indication that the focus of the probe is on the act of surveillance itself rather than the content of the recorded material. Israeli Ambassador Ruth Koen-Dar, still serving as a non-resident ambassador in Slovenia, has reiterated her stance that claims of Israeli interference in Slovenian elections are nothing more than a conspiracy theory rooted in domestic anti-Semitic sentiment. She has previously expressed similar views, emphasizing that after five months of police investigations, it appears that the entire situation has been a mirage. Her comments reflect a broader skepticism among some officials regarding the legitimacy of the allegations surrounding Black Cube. Despite these assertions, the police have maintained that the investigation is proceeding independently and transparently. They have promised to inform the public once the results are ready, ensuring that the process remains unaffected and within legal boundaries. Nevertheless, past experiences suggest that such assurances may not always translate into timely or complete transparency, leaving many questions unanswered.
