Germany in a substantial increase in the price of cigarettes, even more than 11 euros per box

Germany's Ministry of Finance has proposed a significant increase in cigarette prices, with a pack of cigarettes expected to cost nearly €12 by 2030. This would make them as expensive as they currently are in France. The price hike aims to reduce smoking rates and generate additional revenue for the state treasury, which is projected to gain €3.6 billion by 2030 from higher tobacco taxes. According to preliminary plans, the average price of a pack of 20 cigarettes could rise from approximately €8.80 today to around €11.40 by 2030. Other tobacco products would also see price increases. A spokesperson for Germany's Ministry of Finance stated that the price increase would contribute to lower smoking rates while boosting state finances.

Smokers will not be happy: A drastic increase in prices is planned, the box will soon be more than 11 euros

The German Ministry of Finance has prepared a draft law proposing a significant and gradual increase in the prices of cigarettes and other tobacco products. The goal of this measure is to reduce smoking rates while also substantially filling the state treasury. According to the report, the average price of a pack of 20 cigarettes, currently around €8.80 in Germany, could rise to €11.40 by 2030. This would increase the tax per pack from €4.40 to €5.75. The ministry estimates that this policy could add €3.6 billion to the national budget by 2030.
