Roblox bans 'doomscrolling' for rewards

Roblox has introduced new youth protection rules targeting 'doomscrolling' mechanics in games, which reward continuous consumption of media feeds with virtual rewards. The updated guidelines prohibit experiences designed to keep younger users engaged through endless scrolling, autoplay loops, and other automated viewing mechanisms. This applies specifically to accounts in the Roblox Kids (ages 5–8) and Roblox Select (ages 9–15) categories. The changes follow criticism over addictive design patterns and inappropriate content for minors. A popular game, 'Steal an Egg,' was cited as a prime example of this practice, where players could watch endless video clips to improve their character’s speed. The game was temporarily removed but has since been reinstated after removing the problematic feature. Regular rewarded video ads remain allowed, as they require user activation and have daily limits.
