The Jubilee Bull Marathon will also be run for eight-year-old Tea

The tenth edition of the Blitz Bovec Marathon will take place on Saturday, September 5th, with over 1,500 participants expected to take part in the event. The marathon, held in the town of Bovec, Slovenia, has become one of the largest sports-recreational events in the Posočje region. This year’s edition marks a special occasion, as it coincides with the anniversary of the event, which has been running for more than a decade. Among the participants will be eight-year-old Tea, who lives near Ptuj and suffers from a genetic disorder. For Tea to maintain his ability to walk, he urgently requires gene therapy treatment in the United States. The organizers have decided to include Tea in this year's race, using it as an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for his medical care. The marathon will serve as both a sporting challenge and a charitable cause, highlighting the community's support for children facing health challenges. The event will feature three different routes for runners, allowing participants to choose based on their fitness level and interest. These include the 19-kilometer route “Along the Soška Front,” the 15.3-kilometer route “Bushy Views,” and the shorter 5.6-kilometer route “A Short Walk Through Bovec.” The races will run throughout the day, with additional activities planned for the afternoon, including children’s runs. Runners will come from 18 different countries, competing in recreational runs, half-marathons, and full marathons. The marathon has long been known for its vibrant atmosphere and enthusiastic participation. This year, however, the event promises even greater excitement, thanks to the record number of registrations. All 300 available spots for walking tours were sold out within days of being made available in early May. The event has attracted considerable attention, with many locals expressing enthusiasm about the opportunities for physical activity and social engagement. In addition to the main races, the event will also showcase the broader significance of Bovec as a hub for community gatherings. The local accommodation capacity has been fully booked well in advance, indicating the popularity of the event among visitors. Approximately 400 volunteers will assist with the organization and execution of the event, ensuring smooth operations and a welcoming environment for all attendees. The Blitz Bovec Marathon is recognized as one of the most significant sporting events in the area, drawing participants and spectators from far and wide. This year’s edition will include a special program designed to accompany the sporting activities, offering further entertainment and engagement for attendees.
