The JNana Theater is represented by Draigvala

On August 30, 2026, the Slovenian theater collective JNana Theater will unveil its latest production, Draigvalo, marking a significant milestone after nine years of operating in relative obscurity. The one-time-only performance will take place starting at Brda near Kranj and concluding at Viba Studios, offering audiences a unique experience that blends nature with cinematic artistry. This special event is part of the theater’s 20th production, which has been largely known within a close circle of supporters and collaborators. Now, for the first time, the group is opening its doors to a broader public audience. Founded by Nana Šumrada Slavnić, the JNana Theater began as a personal project driven by a desire to reconnect with her creative roots. A former lawyer who worked internationally and domestically with major corporations, including the successful domestic company Outfit7, she found herself missing the artistic expression she had once cherished through dance during childhood. After giving birth to her second daughter, she decided to channel this longing into creating intimate gatherings for a select group of friends. These early events evolved over the years into increasingly ambitious projects, involving some of Slovenia’s top artists and gaining greater artistic value. It was this journey that led to the establishment of JNana Theater, which is now presenting its 20th production to the wider public. Draigvalo promises to be an extraordinary experience, combining elements of nature and film studio environments with advanced technological features. The production includes complex projections alongside live performances, creating a multi-sensory environment. At the heart of the story are two sisters searching for their purpose, power, and soul. They encounter a figure named Norna, a spiritual guide who aims to lead them forward, though one sister is resistant to her influence. The narrative is imbued with a magical quality, reflecting the ninth anniversary of the JNana Theater, a number considered mystical in many cultures. The choreography of Draigvalo is handled by Anja Möderndorfer, while the cast includes Tina Skvarča, Pia Skvarča, Maša Tiselj, Gaia Višnar, Gea Erjavec, Brigita Krašovec, Luka Bokšan, Srđan Milovanović, Roman Vučajnk, Ajda Kristina Vučajnk, Tanja Pečenko, and performers specializing in medieval skills. Special guest appearances include Sara Briški Cirman, known professionally as Raiven. Maša Tiselj, one of the actors, described the collaboration with Nana as a transformative process. She noted that each project begins with a vivid, almost sacred vision presented by Nana, which inspires deep admiration and a sense of anticipation. As the creation process unfolds, she feels part of something larger than herself, something she can barely comprehend. Along the way, she experiences moments of doubt, professional and personal frustrations, yet ultimately finds resolution through Nana's unwavering commitment to her vision. The final performance leaves her transformed, fulfilled, and lighter. According to her, the audience shares in this transformation, making these productions more than just performances, they become rituals that touch something deeply personal and change those who witness them. Pia Skvarča, another cast member, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing how working with Nana has always felt like a rite of passage. Each project starts with a grand, mystical idea that Nana passionately conveys, igniting a sense of wonder and eagerness. Through the creative process, she feels connected to something greater, even if it remains partially elusive.
