Jason Robertson signs $12 million deal with Dallas Stars to avoid arbitration hearing

Jason Robertson has agreed to a new contract with the Dallas Stars worth $12 million, securing his future with the team and avoiding a potential salary arbitration hearing. The agreement was finalized Tuesday night, just a day before the 27-year-old forward’s birthday and nearly three weeks after he initiated the arbitration process. The Stars officially announced the deal, marking a resolution to a contractual dispute that had loomed over the team throughout the off-season. Robertson, known for his offensive production, had filed for arbitration following the team’s decision to pursue a sign-and-trade option that would have sent him to the Seattle Kraken in exchange for the seventh overall draft pick. Although the Stars had already prepared a deal to facilitate the move, Robertson refused to accept terms that would have offered him a long-term contract valued at $120 million over eight years, which equates to approximately $15 million annually. Robertson’s performance this past season was among the best in the league, as he recorded 96 points (45 goals, 51 assists) while playing all 328 regular-season games for the Stars. In addition to his current contract, Robertson previously inked a $31 million, four-year deal in 2022, further cementing his value to the organization. Drafted 39th overall in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft, Robertson has consistently contributed to the Stars' offense, accumulating 365 points (155 goals, 210 assists) in his last four seasons with the team. His ability to score at a high rate has made him a fan favorite and a crucial part of the team’s playoff aspirations. With the new contract in place, the Stars have avoided the need for a salary arbitration hearing, which would have required both parties to present arguments before a neutral panel.
