Jana Nayagan review: Vijay deserved a better goodbye than this bloated spectacle

After months of anticipation, delays, and controversy, one of the biggest Tamil movies of 2026, Jana Nayagan, is finally set to hit theatres on July 23. Directed by H. Vinoth, the political action entertainer arrives at a unique moment in actor-turned-politician Vijay’s career, as he now serves as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The film made headlines long before its theatrical debut, with record-breaking advance bookings and a prolonged censor battle that kept it in the public eye for several months. Jana Nayagan features a stellar ensemble cast, led by Vijay himself. The film also stars Pooja Hegde, with Bobby Deol playing the principal antagonist.
