COThe Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL) has formed a study group focused on geopolitical issues, globalization, and development. The initiative was launched at the end of 2024 to assess the impact of economic relationships on regional countries. Over 18 months, participants analyzed international economic variables and developed strategies for development across American nations. The findings were compiled into a public institutional report titled 'Rupturas y oportunidades,' set to be presented on August 4, 2026, in Santiago, Chile. The report aims to guide local governments in decision-making amid global power rivalries. The group is led by former South American leaders Michelle Bachelet (Chile) and Iván Duque (Colombia), alongside other notable figures such as Josep Borrell, Mia Mottley, and Aloizio Mercadante. The project received support from UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
