Three young Italian hikers were forced to abandon their first day of a four-day trek across the Triglav Plateau after encountering a pack of wolves. The incident occurred between Planina Laz and Mišelski Pass. Due to fear, the hikers called mountain rescuers, who safely escorted them back to the valley during the night. According to the Bohinj Mountain Rescue Service, encounters with wolves are rare since they typically avoid humans. Despite this, the hikers were too frightened to continue, prompting the rescue operation. Rescuers advised that if people encounter a wolf, they should remain calm, slowly move away in the direction of the wolf’s approach, and speak in a normal tone. They emphasized that while the situation is unpleasant, the wolf generally fears humans more than vice versa.
