Istanbul restores major Bosphorus car ferry route

The Istanbul Municipality assembly has approved the restoration of a major Bosphorus car ferry route between İstinye on the European side and Çubuklu on the Asian side. The route had been suspended since July 31, 2025, due to high operational costs, with mini ferries temporarily replacing the service. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by First Deputy Chairman Gökhan Gümüşdağ. Justice and Development Party (AKP) member Gaye Zarif supported the move, citing demands from Beykoz residents for increased ferry frequency. Republican People’s Party (CHP) member Burak Korkmaz highlighted expanded parking capacity and discounted fares for passengers. The restored service aims to alleviate traffic caused by construction at the Kavacık intersection. Additionally, the assembly approved a temporary measure allowing students to purchase a monthly transit subscription for one Turkish Lira ($0.03).

Opposition concerned over İstanbul takeover as council member resigns

An opposition member of Istanbul's Metropolitan Municipality Council, Ekrem Eray Arda, resigned from the Republican People’s Party (CHP), raising concerns that the opposition could lose its council majority. This follows similar patterns in the Üsküdar district, where the opposition lost control due to detentions, resignations, and party switches. Sinem Dedetaş, a CHP mayor, was detained in July as part of a corruption investigation, leading to the election of an acting mayor. The AKP gained control after some council members switched parties and others were detained. The New Party, a CHP splinter group, alleges that these changes were achieved through pressure, threats, and party transfers, while the AKP denies such claims. Despite these challenges, the opposition still holds control in most municipalities.

Bias read (Conservative): The article frames the loss of opposition control in municipalities as a result of systematic tactics by the ruling AKP, including detentions, resignations, and party transfers. While it presents both sides' perspectives, the emphasis on the AKP's actions and the portrayal of the opposition's losses

Bias read (Center): The article presents information about a municipal decision involving political parties (AKP and CHP), but does not take a clear ideological stance. It reports both perspectives, Gaye Zarif from AKP supporting the decision based on resident demands, and Burak Korkmaz from CHP highlighting logistical,
