Israeli journalist and author Amir Tibon has won the 2026 Sami Rohr Prize for nonfiction for his memoir 'The Gates of Gaza: A Story of Betrayal, Survival, and Hope in Israel’s Borderlands.' The book recounts Tibon's personal experience during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, when he and his family were living in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, close to Gaza City. In the book, Tibon describes the harrowing events of that day and the actions taken by his parents to rescue his family. The Gates of Gaza is noted for addressing both the historical and political context leading up to October 7 and the broader issue of rising antisemitism globally. Tibon will be honored at a ceremony hosted by the National Library of Israel on July 28 alongside three other finalists.
