Iran warns of explosions near the Strait of Hormuz

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated once again following a series of U.S. airstrikes targeting military installations in Iran on Tuesday, July 7. The attacks were launched in response to alleged Iranian strikes against commercial vessels navigating through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime corridor for global oil trade. The British organization UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which monitors maritime security, reported incidents in the area and urged vessels traversing the Persian Gulf to take additional precautions amid rising threats. These developments have heightened fears of a new military escalation, particularly given the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran regarding the navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear program. Recently, both governments had resumed talks with the mediation of Qatar in an effort to ease tensions. In addition to the military response, the administration of President Donald Trump announced new economic sanctions against Iran, including the revocation of temporary authorizations related to the export of Iranian crude oil. This move represents an intensification of pressure on Tehran, further complicating diplomatic relations and increasing uncertainty in the region.
