The Putri Yasmin carried 114 passengers and 17 crew members, including two Australian tourists, with the majority being Indonesian nationals. Additionally, the ship transported 44 vehicles and 53 motorcycles. A total of 172 individuals were successfully evacuated, though one woman was pronounced dead following the incident. Two injured passengers were taken to a hospital for treatment. The discrepancy between the number of people officially listed on board and the actual count is common in Indonesia, where passenger records are sometimes inaccurate. A 25-year-old survivor, Kiky Okta Pradika, recounted how he retrieved his life jacket before jumping into the water alongside several other passengers. He stated that it took several hours for rescuers to arrive on scene. The situation was further complicated by heavy smoke, strong winds, and high waves, which hindered efforts to reach those in need. A large-scale search and rescue operation was launched immediately after the fire. Multiple ships and a helicopter were dispatched to the location, with over 200 personnel participating in the effort.
