Incident of Casal Palocco, the former YouTuber of TheBorderline gets the custody of social services

An Italian former YouTuber, Matteo Di Pietro, has been granted placement under social services after serving part of his prison sentence for causing a fatal car accident in 2023. The incident occurred in the Roman neighborhood of Casal Palocco, where Di Pietro was driving a rented Lamborghini at high speed when he collided with a Smart ForFour carrying a five-year-old boy named Manuel Proietti. The child died instantly in the crash. Di Pietro, who is now 20 years old, had been under house arrest since June 2023 following a plea deal in January 2024 that resulted in a four-year and four-month sentence for vehicular manslaughter. Di Pietro’s sentence included a period of house arrest, which he served until recently. Now, under the new arrangement with prosecutors, he will complete his remaining time outside of house arrest while participating in social activities aimed at rehabilitation. During the day, he will be allowed to go out and perform tasks outlined in his program, though he must remain at home between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. The accident took place on June 14, 2023, in via di Macchia Saponara, in Casal Palocco. At the time, Di Pietro was driving a Lamborghini rented for a challenge organized by the group of content creators known as The Borderline. The challenge required participants to stay inside the vehicle for 50 consecutive hours. On the second day of the challenge, the Lamborghini crashed into a Smart ForFour carrying a woman and her two children. The impact was severe, and the young Manuel did not survive. Investigations into the crash used surveillance footage and GPS data from the vehicle to reconstruct the sequence of events. According to the findings, the Lamborghini reached speeds of up to 124 kilometers per hour before the collision. There were no signs of braking prior to the impact. Prosecutors argued that Di Pietro rented the Lamborghini with the intent of drawing attention from his audience, prioritizing views over safety and disregarding the requests of other participants to slow down. Following the accident, Di Pietro got out of the car and tried to help the family involved in the crash, but efforts to save Manuel proved futile. During the trial, Di Pietro admitted his responsibility, apologized to the child's family, and opted for a plea agreement. As part of his social service commitment, he will participate in programs with the Road Victims Association, already initiated after the judicial process concluded. He will also engage in volunteer work with Caritas and the Happy Time association, which supports children with disabilities.
