Fire in Ogliastra, at least 130 people evacuated in Arzana and Elini Video

An extensive wildfire broke out on September 28 around 2 pm in Arzana and Elini, located in the Ogliastra province of Sardinia. The fire started near Siccaderba, close to the State Road 389 Nuoro-Lanusei, and spread rapidly due to strong winds, creating a visible smoke column several kilometers away. Over 120 hectares of forest burned in Arzana, prompting the evacuation of more than 100 people, including 60 residents of a psychiatric community, a horse farm, a construction center, a wood and GPL cylinder depot, and rural and suburban dwellers. The mayor of Arzana, Angelo Stochino, described the situation as 'dramatic.' In Elini, ten homes in the outskirts were evacuated, affecting approximately 30 people. Firefighters, including around 40 personnel and 15 vehicles, such as three national Canadairs, two Super Pumas, and three regional light helicopters, along with police forces, civil protection units, and volunteers, worked throughout the night to extinguish the flames. As of now, there are no reported damages to property or persons.
